Saltwater Flyfishing Adventures

Steve's passion is saltwater flyfishing and Vancouver Island offers some of the world's finest. Our aggressive Pacific salmon are voracious feeders, often packing on pounds of weight in very short periods of time. Nothing compares with the exhilaration of pursuing these incredible fish with light, modern flyfishing equipment. The pristine waters of Esperanza Inlet and Nootka Sound on Vancouver Island's rugged west coast offer the ultimate in open water flyfishing and bucktailing. Enjoy the fast action of the surface trolled fly or cast amongst the vast expanse of kelp beds from the comfort and safety of our 24 ft. offshore sportfisher. Schools of feisty black sea bass are also targeted as they relentlessly pursue baitfish. We use only the finest fly fishing equipment supplied by Islander, Loop, Airflow or bring your own. We encourage any level of experience. Nootka Island Flyfishing season mid July to October.

Beach and estuary flyfishing for mature pink and Coho salmon may be the most exciting flyfishing you will ever experience. During the later summer and fall large schools of these fish cruise the protected shorelines searching for their home rivers. We visually "sight fish" from small boats or wade the crystal clear waters of Johnston and Georgia Straits in pursuit of these magnificent fish. Hooking a 12 lb. Coho on a #10 streamer and floating line is a thrill you wont forget; Coho do reach 20 lbs. in our waters. Beach and estuary season mid July to November.

Salmon & Halibut Fishing

Nootka Island:
Experience B.C.'s finest saltwater fishing aboard Island Sportfishing's 22-25 ft. offshore sportfishing boats. Trophy Chinook and Coho salmon, powerful halibut and bottom fish will fulfill all your fishing expectations. Nootka Island is situated in the richest fishing waters on the west coast. Venture offshore to target the massive runs of migrating salmon or bottom fish for halibut. Fish the protected inshore waters for aggressive Chinooks and Coho and various species of bottom fish.

Comox and Campbell River Inside Waters:
Year round action packed fishing , Eco-tours and prawn and shellfish trips.

Dec. - April: Resident aggressive feeder Chinooks provide a consistent winter fishery in local waters. These fish range in size from 8 - 20 lbs. This is also the best time to drop the prawn and crab traps. The barbecue is always onboard.

May - July: Migrating mature Chinook salmon to 40 lbs. are feeding in local waters. This is the fishing that put our area on the map.

Sept. - Nov.: This time of year huge schools of mature Coho and Chum salmon are entering local waters. Coho salmon are very aggressive fish notorious for incredible surface acrobatics. The hormone charged chum salmon is also an incredible sport fish. Imagine hooking into 20 or more of these on light tackle in a morning on the water. This time of year also provides great Saltwater Fly Fishing.

Freshwater Flyfishing Adventures

Central Vancouver Island is a fly fishers paradise, where world famous rivers like the Cowichan and Stamp have drawn adventurous anglers for over a century. Island rivers support all five species of pacific salmon, wild and hatchery steelhead and resident trout. Coastal lakes are home to aggressive cutthroat, rainbow and dolly varden.

River Trout Fishing:
Spring and fall are the best times to fish island rivers. Insect activity and downstream fry migrations in the spring awaken resident and sea run trout. Fishing can be hot! Some streams provide excellent dry fly fishing through out the month of June. In the fall trout key in on the abundant salmon eggs. Fishing with various egg patterns produces great results.

Lake Fishing:
We provide pontoon boats or a 10 ft inflatable enabling us access into the hard to reach locations. Imagine sharing a pristine lake with your fishing partner and a pair of nesting bald eagles. Hiking into an alpine lake with a float tube and gourmet lunch is a day dreams are made of. Spring and fall is best. Winter cutthroat fly fishing is a challenging fishery for the adventurous. Island cutthroat can attain weights over 7 lbs.

Winter Steelhead:
We are offering guided steelheading on the Stamp River, which supports a healthy population of enhanced steelhead. This is a wonderful fishing experience for any level of angler. Best December - April

"Just wanted to say thanks again for the great Striper trip my son Chris and I had with you guys. In the middle of winter and 45 degrees I would not of imagined catching a dozen stripers between 7 and 10lbs. Chris and I talked later and agreed that without Bill, we would have caught zero fish. See you next time."
