Fishing Lodge Safari On The Zambezi

Zambia — Package: 44001296

Package Details and Information:

Gavin & Penny invite you to experience Africa untamed - their two unique Safari Lodges lie on the last uninhabited stretch of the magnificent Zambezi River in Western Zambia.

Zambezi Tiger Fish are common to these waters, as are a variety of bream, African Pike and Nembwe. Both Lodges and the Camp offer superb fishing. Don't take our word for it, just ask our two resident fish eagles.

Lungwebungu Camp - Fishing Safari

In north-western Zambia, about 400km up the Zambezi from Mutemwa, is the best kept secret in fresh water fishing. Its THE place to catch "wild" Tiger, bream and an incredible variety of other fresh water species.

This part of Africa is truly wild and is so remote that the Tiger have never been fished before. You really stand a good chance of catching big specimens! They are plentiful, ferocious and BIG!!!

Although this is a safari bush camp, the accommodation and facilities are very comfortable. Accommodation is in safari bow tents (3m x 3m). There are comfortable beds, mattresses and linen. There is a central ablution facility with hot showers, toilets and basins.

We have a reputation for good food - and lots of it! The local Nembwe and 3-spot Bream are delicious - so fresh fish is always on the menu.

Four 6-metre aluminium boats are properly equipped with depth finders, GPS and conventional fishing tackle (including trawling and spinning rods and reels and a variety of lures). Each boat has an experienced guide, and a maximum of 12 clients will be accommodated at one time (or 2-3 anglers per boat)

The boats are skippered by experienced guides who are available to rig, fix, tie flies and give advice. Please note that our policy is to catch and release, but our guides weigh, measure and photograph any fish you may want "as proof".

Day 1
Your Nationwide Airlines flight takes you from Jhb International to Livingstone, followed by a charter flight from Livingstone to Lukulu. We depart immediately for the camp and settle in. Dinner around the campfire.

Days 2-5
A typical day starts with coffee and rusks at first light. The morning fishing concludes with a huge brunch at 11h00. You are at leisure in the camp until afternoon tea (15h00). Then we fish until dark. A full dinner around the campfire is served at about 19h30.

Day 6
Fishing in the morning. After brunch we depart for Lukulu, for the Charter flight to Livingstone. Return to Johannesburg International on Nationwide Airlines

Location and Fishing Information

Fishing Lodge Safari On The Zambezi - Our Lodge is hidden in thick riverine forest overlooking a serene stretch of the River over a kilometre wide. Every guest enjoys a stunning, completely private view of the Zambezi.

Maziba Bay is set in a gorge below Ngonye Falls, where the Zambezi is narrow and fast flowing, with dramatic rapids in volcanic rock. Private thatched chalets are set in a secluded sandy bay.

Maziba Bay is 70kms upriver from Mutemwa.  It has thatched chalets, all ensuite and the camp is already operational, although the central complex is not built.

Maziba Bay is set in a gorge below the Ngonye Falls, where the Zambezi is narrow and has deep fast flowing water, with dramatic rapids and lots of black volcanic rock.  The fishing at Maziba Bay is excellent and you stand a good chance of catching big tiger.

As you travel downriver from Maziba Bay, the gorge comes to an end and opens up to the peaceful magnificence of Our Lodge.

Here the river is 1km wide.  It is shallow, slow flowing and the massive indigenous trees form a peace of Africa, so beautiful and tranquil.

Hippos, crocodiles, Cape Clawless Otters, Monitor Lizards, abundant birdlife, the happy, friendly Lozi people in their Makoro's is what you'll experience down this magnificent 70km stretch of Zambezi.  Also the herds of elephant from the Sioma Ngwezi National Park are coming back to the banks of the Zambezi, as this piece of Africa's wildlife is coming back in leaps and bounds.

Approximately 5kilometres from Maziba Bay, the mighty Zambezi River reaches a 1 500m wide basalt dyke which creates the magificent waterfall known as Ngonye Falls. Above the falls, the river is knotted with reed and wooded islands, forcing the river into a maze of fast flowing channels.

Part of the fun at Maziba is the adventurous boat ride up the gorge through the rapids to get to the Ngonye Falls and taking a picnic basket along to spend the day swimming in the rock pools and having lunch overlooking the magnificent falls.

What's so amazing about the Ngonye Falls is the total privacy - the fact that you hardly ever see anyone else there.  For the avid fishermen, the tigerfish caught in the boiling pot of the falls and the treacherous rapids, are huge.

Tucked away along the banks of the mighty Zambezi River in Western Zambia lies a place of serene beauty and splendor. Our Lodge.

Awake to the quiet rush of water as the Zambezi spreads its banks a kilometer wide beneath your patio or simply relax under the shade of indigenous trees and enjoy some of southern Africa's finest bird watching. Of course, adventure is never far off and the lodge offers guests Tiger and Bream fishing, specific bird watching expeditions as well as tours to nearby cultural and scenic destinations. No stay at Mutemwa would be complete without a sunset cruise followed by a dinner of authentic African cuisine in the boma, around a roaring campfire.

Each of Mutemwa Lodge's eight luxury bush tents boast an en-suite bathroom, private deck and includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The river flowing past the lodge is generally shallow and broken by many forested islands and rapids. This ensures challenging fishing for both spin and fly anglers. The Lodge is the ideal holiday for the enthusiastic fisherman - both amateur or professional.

The renown Zambezi Tiger Fish is common to these waters, as are a variety of bream, African Pike, Upper-Zambezi Yellowfish and Catfish.

We have flyfishing expert - Devan who is available to rig, fix, tie flies and give advice. In the spirit of conservation, the fish our guests catch are tagged and returned to the river.

For the biggest, wildest most ferocious Tiger fish ever, see our unique Fishing Safari at Lungwebungu.

Accommodation:

Situated on the western bank of the great Zambezi River, Our Lodge caters for 12 guests in luxurious tented accommodation. Your every need is met by a staff of 22.

Each tent is atop a teak deck with patio, ensuring a stunning, completely private view of the Zambezi. Each guest suite has a full bathroom, and sleeps two in either single or luxury queen-size beds.

Meals are substantial and home cooked - with freshly caught local fish and game being popular choices. Dinner is "al fresco" around the campfire in the boma. Enjoy a lazy champagne breakfast on the beach. Lunch is often served on the lower deck overlooking the Zambezi, in the shade of the riverine forest. The central area of the thatched lodge consists of a fully stocked bar, dining room and curio shop.
