BOW RIVER
40 miles of nutrient rich water downstream from the city of Calgary , Alberta . It is a typical western river with riffles and pools. The stretch of river we would be floating arguably has the hardest fighting and most acrobatic wild rainbows and bulldogging browns anywhere in North America . Trout caught here are frequently in the 16 to 20 inch class and trout in the 22 to 26 inch range are not uncommon. There is also the occasional big bull trout encountered from time to time and a large population of rocky mountain whitefish. The Bow has an abundance of insect life offering fly fishermen the opportunity to cast to rising trout on pale morning duns, caddis flies, tiny fallen trico spinners and maybe even stone flies. There is also excellent terrestrial action (HOPPERS!!!) if conditions are right.
CROWNEST RIVER
short 2 hour drive southwest of Calgary , Alberta brings you to the Crowsnest Pass. This beautiful freestone river is a true walk & wade stream, with primarily rainbows in the 14 to 16 inch class with larger trout also being taken regularly. There are also browns, cuts and some bulls as well as rocky mountain whitefish. The Crowsnest River starts in Crowsnest Lake along the continental divide and flows east to the Old Man Dam, offering the angler 25 miles of beautiful wilderness fly fishing. The river with its large variety of mayflies, stone flies and caddis flies offers the angler excellent dry fly opportunities. The history and scenery in this region is worth the trip in itself. Wilderness wading adventures on the Castle and Oldman river targeting big bulls, rainbows, cutthroat and cut/bows are also available.

Available Dates:
Spring fishing, in April and May on the Bow river, can be spectacular, big browns and rainbows are feeding heavily still primarily in their winter holes. The opportunity is there for some early season dry fly action on spring caddis, midges, blue winged olives and March browns but the majority of the fly-fishing will be with nymphs and streamers. The Crowsnest River offers the best opportunity for spring dry fly action. The hatches will be midges, March browns, blue winged olives and the little sepia stone fly, again, nymphing will be the most productive way to fish. The rivers in southern Alberta round out into excellent shape right after spring runoff, which is usually the last week in June. Under the right conditions the dry fly action can be excellent all the way through to the end of October but the most consistent way is with nymphs and streamers. The spring and fall are the most unpredictable weather wise but the trout are extremely aggressive and you could have the river to your self.
"What a great experience!
Mark's ability to read the water, understand the fish, share his knowledge, and anticipate our needs are reasons we whole heartily recommend the service."
Doug Brady ~ United States "I thought I new everything about Flyfishing till I met Mark! I had four fantastic days on the Bow River learning new tactics and catching more big trout than I deserve! Mark's teaching skills and knowledge of the water are some of the reasons why I would recommend Mark!"
